Jaipur, June 19: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has set up a task force at the chief secretary level to ensure implementation of the decisions regarding transfer of powers to panchayati raj institutions within three months. Gehlot has also directed the official machinery to ensure implementation of the decisions which was taken in the brainstorming session of the ministry recently, an official release said today.
As per the decisions taken at the meeting two new services would be created - Rajasthan Development Service and Rajasthan Engineering Service - to ensure efficient and skilled cadres for serving panchayati raj institutions, the release said.
It has also been decided to merge Rural Development Department into Panchayatiraj Department and giving the grassroots institutions right to utilise their own incomes as per their wishes.
Entire elementary education will now be under the charge of panchayatiraj institutions who are also being authorised to recruit teachers.
Other important decisions include transfer of activities of soil conservation and watershed development from Agriculture Department to Panchayatiraj Department, and authorising zila parishads to control social welfare activities in their respective districts.
Panchayats would also undertake construction, maintenance and repair works of government buildings and maintenance of roads and culverts and have power of inspections of industrial training institutes.
