New Delhi, Sept 14: Directorate General of anti-dumping and allied duties (DGAD) has recommended imposition of anti-dumping duty on imports of measuring tape from China. In its final findings, the DGAD recommended imposition of anti-dumping duty equal to the difference between $ 4.106 per kg for steel tapes and their parts and components and $ 4.691 per kg for fibreglass tapes and their parts and components and the landed value of imports.

DGAD said measuring tape had been imported into India from China below its normal value, causing material injury to the domestic industry.

"The Indian industry has suffered material injury. The injury has been caused by the dumped imports from the subject country," DGAD said in a notification dated September 1, 2003.
DGAD initiated the investigation on a petition by Ludhiana based FMI Ltd and Freemans Measures Ltd.

In another order, DGAD initiated anti-dumping investigations into imports of melamine from China.
DGAD has initiated the investigation on a petition by Gujarat state fertiliser and chemicals.

Melamine, which is a non-toxic pure chemical powder, is reacted with formaldehyde and made into resins or moulding powder for making crockery and other things.

The period of investigation would be from April 01, 2002 to June 30, 2003.
