England have named Richard Johnson and Martyn Ball to replace Robert Croft and Andy Caddick in the England squad to tour India on 14 November. While Somerset seamer Johnson was expected to be a candidate, Gloucestershire spinner Ball, 31, is a big surprise.
Ball was chosen ahead of county teammate Jeremy Snape and experienced Phil Tufnell, while Johnson was picked over Yorkshire`s chris silverwood. Croft and Caddick had pulled out of the tour on Tuesday, after making a decision with their families that security was too big a risk.
Johnson, 26, was called into the England squad for the last three Tests against Australia this summer but did not make the starting eleven.
Only five members of the squad have played more than 20 tests. Only two players Captain Nasser Hussain and Graham Thorpe have more than 50 appearances. The England team, due to arrive in India on November 14, will play three tests in December and five one-day internationals in January.
