Kohima, July 29: Nagaland governor Shyamal Datta today dedicated to people of the state a war memorial in memory of those Naga soldiers who laid down their lives during World War II and thereafter to save the motherland. The memorial is a renovated version of the memorial which existed at the same place outside state assembly complex. It had been built in memory of brave soldiers of Assam regiment who had made supreme sacrifices during World War II.

The idea of converting this complex into a state war memorial was conceived by Nagaland Range (South) of Assam Rifles to honour the martyrs of the Assam Regiment, Assam Rifles and the brave soldiers of the Naga regiment. The complex has the memorial dedicated to all Naga soldiers who died in various operations from World War II to Kargil where both battalions of the Naga regiment fought with valour, said the army generals speaking on solemn occasion.

Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio, his cabinet colleagues, Director General of Assam Rifles, Colonels of Assam and Naga Regiments, World War II veterans and military and civil officials paid homage to the gallant soldiers of Nagaland. Bureau Report
