New Delhi, Jan 20: The dirty and neglected Kudesia Ghat on river Yamuna in the capital will be a thing of the past once work on the Rs. 5 crore plan for its development starts on February 18. The foundation of development, beautification and greening of Kudesia Ghat, also known as Jamna Ghat, on the lines of ghats of Haridwar would be laid on Mahashivratri by deputy prime minister L K Advani, according to minister of state for youth affairs and sports Vijay Goel.

He told reporters here today that two bathing ponds, bigger than swimming pool, would be constructed and they would have clean water even if the level of the Yamuna went down.

Goel, who is also the local MP, said none would be uprooted during the process of development of the ghats. They would be settled in a planned manner and the entire project would be completed in a year, he said.

Under the development plan, stairs would be constructed on ghats apart from development of vast green area, fancy lights, music system, five visitors' galleries and separate changing rooms for men and women, he said adding religious and architectural aspects would be taken care of during the process of development.

He said a children's park would be developed near Jama Masjid and work would start on January 23, birthday of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose.

Goel said he had planned to organise a dharna in protest against the delay in setting up a walled city development board and accused the Sheila Dikshit government of not taking any interest in the matter.
