Raipur, Dec 07: Beginning on a populist note, the new BJP government in Chhattisgarh headed by Dr Raman Singh today said special emphasis would be made on development of rural and agricultural sectors and announced a Rs 500 allowance for unemployed youth below poverty line and availability of meals at Rs 5 from various state-owned centres across the state. Assuring the people of the state of "transparent and accountable governance", Dr Singh said in his first press conference after becoming chief minister that he would accord top priority to development of the state, especially rural and agriculture sectors, and provide employment, electricity, safe drinking water, road connectivity, and nutritious food for people.
Outlining his agenda for the next five years, Singh announced a review of all the "anti-people" decisions of the previous congress government headed by Ajit Jogi.
"Wherever it is needed we will change the policies of the earlier government for the welfare of the people," he said adding that there will be accountability in the administration and officials, against whom allegations of bias towards Jogi or the Congress are levelled, will be given a chance to "reform" themselves else his government will take action against them to reform them.
