Strasbourg, Sept 05: The European Parliament called today for the creation of an international court for Iraq to judge crimes committed under the regime of toppled
dictator Saddam Hussein.
European lawmakers said in a report on the global human rights situation that the EU should set up a committee under UN auspices to investigate "war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by the Iraqi regime" to pave the way for a court to try those held responsible.
Saddam was ousted in April after a US-led invasion of Iraq but several tapes purportedly made by him have since been broadcast on Arabic stations and the United States blames his supporters for almost daily attacks against coalition forces.
