Mumbai, Oct 27: Most of the witnesses identified
three prime suspects in the Zaveri Bazaar blast of August 25
in a police parade here, thereby paving the way for their
arrest, even as police today claimed to have made a major
breakthrough in the investigations.
Prime suspects Sayed Abdul Hanif, his wife Fahimida,
daughter Farheen and associate Arshat Shafi Ahmed Ansari were
paraded before the witnesses last week, crime branch sources
said adding most of them had identified the accused involved
in the Zaveri Bazaar blast.
Their arrests under POTA in Zaveri Bazaar blast case was
imminent, the sources told reporters. Earlier, the trio was arrested
in connection with July 28 Ghatkopar blast and another blast
at Gateway of India on August 25.
Fifty-three people were killed and over 100 were injured
in the explosions on August 25 at Gateway of India and Zaveri
Bazaar. In the Ghatkopar blast of July 28, two people were
killed and 31 injured.
Hanif, Fahimida and Arshat would be produced before the
court tomorrow for further remand in the Ghatkopar and
Gateway of India blast cases. Police would also seek the
permission of the court to arrest them in Zaveri Bazaar bomb
blast as they had been identified in the parade.
Hanif's daughter, Farheen, who was also arrested, has
been sent to juvenile remand home as she is a minor.
Police said the accused had links with Lashkar-e-toiba
militants in Dubai and received money through Hawala from a
foreign country for incurring expenditure on creating blasts.
The accused did not open bank accounts as they were afraid
that they would be traced, police said.
