Jaisalmer, Sept 07: Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot today claimed that the Congress would contest the forthcoming assembly polls at its own, and there was no question of an alliance with any political outfit. "My government has worked on all promises made to public, as mentioned in the party manifesto, and the state is on the path of all round progress and prosperity despite the Centre's non-cooperation on famine front," Gehlot said after laying the foundation stone of a Jaisalmer-Barmer drinking water lift project at Mohangarh. "Public confidence and our achievements are the main poll planks we would project in the coming polls," he said.

On quota demands from Rajput, Vaishya, and Brahmins, he said the Vajpayee government should decide and make effective amendments in the Constitution to accommodate the left out poor people among forward classes. The lift project would provide drinking water to 161 villages and 334 hamlets in Jaisalmer, and to 412 villages and 1350 hamlets in Barmer district.

The project would cost Rs 425 crore and about 2880 lakh cusec water would be stored through plants and pipelines.
