New Delhi, May 17: Putting all speculations to rest, Congress finally came out with the fact that Sonia Gandhi would sworn in as the Prime Minister on May 19. Giving this information to newspersons, senior Congress leader Manmohan Singh said that Congress president Sonia Gandhi would meet President Kalam tomorrow morning to discuss government formation. He said Sonia Gandhi has received a letter from the President asking her to meet him today in the evening or tomorrow morning to discuss the government formation, as she is the leader of a single largest party and also leader of single largest pre-poll alliance.

Manmohan Singh also read the text of President’s letter—“I request you to meet me today in the evening or tomorrow morning at your convenience”—and added that Sonia Gandhi has decided to meet him tomorrow.

The speculations started in the evening, when she called the meeting of core group of the party MPs, besides leaders like Laloo Yadav and Shrad Pawar. The reports came in that she is thinking to shift her responsibility on either Manmoham Singh or Pranav Mukherjee.

But her alliance partners like Laloo Prasad, Ramvilas Paswan, Sibu Soren and other Left leaders talked to newspersons and they made every thing clear. Laloo said that he along with other leaders has assured her full-fledged support that the government would complete its tenure.

CPM leader Sitaram Yechuri also talked to Press and said that though they are not joining the government but are extending support to the Congress-led government. He said modalities are being framed on certain issues.

On the other hand, CPI leader AB Bardhan emphasised that Sonia Gandhi is going to sworn in as the Prime Minster on May 19, and would be meeting the President on tomorrow morning. Bureau Report
