Button-led BAR threat not the slightest concern for ultra cool Schumi
Imola (Italy), Apr 27: If Jenson Button and BAR-Honda`s charge here in this weekend`s San Marino Grand Prix rattled Ferrari then nobody told their cool and calm world champion Michael Schumacher.
Imola (Italy), Apr 27: If Jenson Button and BAR-Honda's charge here in this weekend's San Marino Grand Prix rattled Ferrari then nobody told their cool and calm world champion Michael Schumacher.
Briton Button's maiden pole position genuinely gave hope that the tide may be changing and Ferrari's dominant start could be crippled. It may yet be, but in Imola Sunday Schumacher was, once again, in his victorious prime.
"It is an amazing start to the season with Michael stringing together an incredible run of wins," said Ferrari team chief Jean Todt. "We hope we will be able to continue this very enjoyable tradition for a long time.
"That said, this was a very open and difficult race. We saw how the slightest thing at the start can see a driver lose places and then find it impossible to make them up again."
That was the tactic that Button and BAR used in their bid to halt the Ferrari dominance, which had seen them claim two one-two finishes with Schumacher taking a perfect score in the opening three races.
The first part of their plan, to stop Schumacher starting from the front for the first time this season, worked well, and Button could do no more than he did by leading the way until the first set of pit stops.
But once slick work from the typically effective Ferrari pit crew had put Schumacher ahead it was game over.
The German six-time champion consistently turned in record laps to stamp down his authority then cruised to his 74th win.
