New Delhi, Nov 10: It was a "clueless case" where investigation was full of challenges, but still it was cracked, says a jubiliant CBI Director P C Sharma after the alleged killer of poetess Mudhumita Shukla was arrested by the agency sleuths this morning in Lucknow.
"I am very happy that we have managed to nab the killer in this case, especially since several high-profile persons were involved in it," Sharma told a news agency.
The CBI arrested Prakash Chander Pandey, the person who allegedly pulled the trigger at the 24-year-old and seven months pregnant Madhumita. Contending that attempts were made to destroy the evidence in the case, Sharma said "the case was given to CBI after a considerable lapse of time after the crime."
"It was a clueless case and we had to face all sorts of challenges before we nabbed the killer," Sharma said adding, "initially, it was very much difficult and one wondered where to pick up the threads from.
"Finally, after rounding up several people for questioning and working on various possibilities, the CBI team managed to crack the case," he said.
The case was handed over to the CBI in June after which the agency registered a murder case on June 24, more than six weeks after Madhumita was shot dead at her Paper Mill Colony residence on May nine. Bureau Report
