Left Front sweeps municipal polls in Bengal
Kolkata, June 24: The ruling CPI(M)-led Left Front in West Bengal, which had achieved major success in the recent panchayat elections and Lok Sabha and assembly bypolls, today maintained its winning spree, capturing seven of 13 municipalities, for which polls were held on Sunday.

While the Congress bagged one municipality, hung bodies
were elected at five places.
The Trinamool Congress-BJP combine failed to win any of the municipalities.
The Front retained control in the municipalities at Burdwan, Guskara, Panihati, Chakdah, Mekhliganj and Balurghat, besides winning the newly-created Dalhokla municipality. Congress retained control of the Haldibari municipality.
The municipalities of Dubrajpur, Midnapur, Habra, Diamond Harbour and Alipurduar elected hung bodies.
The hung boards of the municipalities were earlier controlled by the Left Front in Dubrajpur and Diamond Harbour. The board at the Midnapur municipality has so long been held jointly by the Congress and the Trinamool Congress, at Habra by Trinamool Congress and BJP and at Alipurduar by Congress and Trinamool Congress.
