Police opened fire and burst teargas shells to quell a crowd indulging in stone pelting and arson at Kadi town of Gujarat's Mahesana district on Friday night while sporadic incidents of violence continued in other parts of the State. A State Reserve Police constable was injured in stone throwing by around 5,000 frenzied people who set ablaze shops in the area on the outskirts of Kadi taluka town belonging to a minority community, prompting the authorities to clamp indefinite curfew from 10.00 pm on Friday, police sources said here on Sunday morning.

BSF and additional police forces were rushed to the disturbed town, they said adding around 50 people were rounded up in connection with the stone pelting incidents.

Incidents of violence were also reported from Kheda, Nadiad town and Adas village of Anand district where police opened fire and burst teargas shells to disperse violent groups. Meanwhile, indefinite curfew continued in Viramgam, Prantij and Sarkhej areas. Ahmedabad city was peaceful with no report of any untoward incidents since Friday even as the Holi-Dhuleti festival was celebrated on a low key in curfew free areas, police said.
Curfew was lifted from nine police station areas on Saturday morning and was relaxed in six police station areas of Kalupur, Dariapur, Shahpur, Karanj, Haveliand Vejalpur from 10.00 am and 6.00 pm, police added.
