Islamabad, Oct 09: Pakistan says it will soon test more missiles - some capable of carrying nuclear warheads and able to hit targets deep in India - but insisted today
that the launches were not meant to create regional tension.
"Whenever there is a requirement for technical data
to be validated, the tests will be held," said Maj Gen Shaukat
sultan, Pakistan's chief military spokesman. The timetable
"should not at all be fixed to the next few days. The
requirement could be (in the) next few days or whenever
required."
Sultan made the comments a day after Pakistan test fired a surface-to-surface nuclear-capable Hatf-4 missile, also known as the Shaheen 1. It was its second missile test in less than a week, and the military has promised "a series" of such tests, without specifying when they will be held.
Sultan said the missiles to be test fired "are capable of carrying all kinds of warheads" - nuclear and non-nuclear.
The tests "should not create any sort of tension in the region," Sultan said. Bureau Report
