New Delhi, Sept 11: As many as 12,000 names, found to be duplicate, have been removed after verification of electoral rolls in Delhi, where assembly polls are slated
later this year.
The duplicate entries were removed by electoral registration officers after verification of computer-generated lists, Delhi Chief Electoral Officer Arun Goyal said today.
Goyal, who along with district commissioners and poll observers had a meeting with Election Commission officials here, said the process of deletion of duplicate names was still going on. On the directions of the Election Commission, the poll authorities had also organised meetings with various resident welfare associations and gram sabhas for the purposes of inclusion and deletion of names. Such meetings would also be organised on Saturdays and Sundays so as to ensure larger participation.
He said the authorities had already received more than 2.5 lakh forms from the people who wanted to get their names included in the roll or shifted from a particular roll. Bureau Report
