Mumbai, July 15: An aggressive Shiv Sena-BJP opposition today staged a noisy walkout in the Maharashtra legislative assembly after launching an offensive against influential NCP minister Suresh Jain for committing irregularities in a bank controlled by him. The irregularities in Jalgaon District Co-operative Bank (JDCCB) rocked question hour in the state assembly with saffron combine members alleging that government's act of staying the Reserve Bank of India's order of suspending the board of directors amounted to 'shielding corruption'. The Sena-BJP leaders, including Eknath Khadse, who is one of the directors of the bank, opposition leader Narayan Rane and BJP's Gopinath Munde sharply attacked the government over the issue.

The opposition members alleged that the commissioner of co-operation, Ratnakar Gaikwad, was transferred because he had initiated inquiry against the bank and he abided by the RBI orders.

The Sena-BJP members questioned as to why the RBI's order under rule 110 of suspending the board of directors was stayed by the government.


Minister of State for co-operation Babasaheb Kupekar said he took the decision in his Quassi-judicial powers. Even the Chief Minister Sushilkumar Shinde, who also holds the co-operation portfolio, stated that Kupekar has taken a correct decision.
