Hyderabad, May 26: The Thailand contingent arrived here today but without their star athlete to take part in the 2nd Asian Grand Prix Athletics Meet on May 28. Seearwong Reanchai, the star attraction in the 100 metres dash, has pulled out of the tournament due to ankle injury, team manager Supamat Ariyamongkal said.
"However, we are hopeful of winning a few medals," he said. The team's focus would be to grab a medal in 4x100m relay in women's section as the team did well in the Busan Asian Games. Tresica Roberts is another medal prospect for Thailand in 100m hurdles, the manager said adding 14 of the 17 athletes had arrived for the meet.
Asian powerhouse China, which dominated the first edition, has already pulled out of the tournament due to Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS) outbreak in their country.
