Imphal, Oct 14: Manipur government today disallowed holding of an United Committee Manipur (UCM)-sponsored crucial public leaders' meeting at Thau ground here stating that prohibitory orders were in force in the area, official sources said. Police prevented the UCM from holding the public meeting at the Thau ground at the last minute although the apex body had permission for it, they said.
Strongly condemning the government action, a UCM spokesman said the meeting would be held at the recreation hall of the D M college here.
The authorities apprehended some trouble since the meeting, which was to be attended by leaders of various communities, social organisations and women's associations, was to discuss the current situation arising out of the unconditional release of 13 NSCN (IM) members by the state government last week, the sources added.
