Bhopal, Oct 14: NCP suffered a setback in Madhya Pradesh ahead of assembly polls as its two top functionaries today announced their decision to quit the party, accusing the central leadership of `weakening the organisation' in the Hindi heartland. Addressing a joint press conference here, party national secretary Vijay Dubey and Madhya Pradesh coordinator, Jaipal Singh alleged that the party in the state had become a "victim of a joint conspiracy of NCP president Sharad Pawar and Chief Minister Digvijay Singh".
To a query on future plans, Dubey ruled out joining Congress or BJP and said though he found Samajwadi Party's ideology more acceptable, and a decision would be taken in a day or two.
"Scared of the rising popularity and strength of NCP in the state, Chief Minister Digvijay Singh made a deal with Pawar to wipe us out before the assembly elections," they alleged.
As part of the conspiracy, Congress rebel Kalpana Parulekar was inducted into NCP and made its state unit president with the help of senior Congress leader Kamalnath, Dubey alleged.
He said, "Parulekar's brother Girish Parulekar was made the general secretary of NCP state working committee in a list released in Delhi on October 11, while her private secretary and driver were made general secretary and member of the committee respectively."
Dubey claimed that 77 office bearers of NCP in Delhi, Bihar, Uttaranchal, Punjab, Haryana, Uttar Pradesh and West Bengal have also quit the party in protest against the `indifference' of the leadership. Bureau Report
