Madurai Oct 29: Members of the Madurai Municipal Corporation belonging to the CPI-M today opposed corporation's Tamukkam ground being given to the VHP for organising a programme to be attended by its leader Praveen Togadia. The CPIM councillors told the council meeting today the VHP international general secretary Togadia should not be allowed to spoil the long-standing communal harmony and peace that prevailed in the city.
Togadia is arriving in this city tomorrow to participate in the 'Pasumpon Muthuramalinga Thevar Gurupooja' at Pasumpon and also address "all-caste leaders meeting" being organised by the VHP in this city.
However, Togadia had himself said recently that there would be no distribution of 'trishul' for which arrangements was made by the Bharatiya Forward Bloc.
Meanwhile, the BJP members said that Togadia had addressed meetings in this city earlier and the communal harmony had not been affected and only some vested interests were spreading such "rumours".
