Yavatmal (Maha), Nov 12: Indefinite curfew clamped at Digras, about 80 kms from here, after a mob resorted to stone pelting and agitation to protest the alleged custodial death of a man, has been lifted as the situation was returning to normal, police said. The indefinite curfew was imposed yesterday afternoon when a mob went on rampage after one Sheikh Baba (40), detained in connection with some criminal cases, allegedly hanged himself to death in police lock-up in the early hours.
Two policemen on prison guard duty were suspended for dereliction of duty and one police station officer was transferred last night, according to superintendent of police Amitesh Kumar, who is currently camping at Digras. Kumar also assured ordering of a CID probe into the alleged custodial death of Baba.

Police have registered a criminal offence against 150 unidentified people under relevant sections of IPC and Public Property Destruction Act, but no arrest has been made so far.

Meanwhile, the funeral of the deceased was performed in a peaceful manner at 11.45 am this morning in the presence of top police personnel including the IG of Amravati rage.

"Autopsy on his body was performed yesterday at Yavatmal Medical College and the report is awaited," Kumar said. He, however, expressed his inability to comment on the exact cause of the death till he received the autopsy report.

One company of state reserve police is still deployed in the town to maintain law and order situation, Kumar said adding, the situation is now under total control.
