New Delhi, Mar 18: A Delhi Court today directed Tihar Jail authorities to provide proper and adequate security to Aftab Ansari, prime accused in the Kolkata American Center shootout case for the period he is lodged in the jail. "Let there be no lapse as far as the security of Aftab Ansari is concerned," metropolitan magistrate M C Gupta ordered when Ansari was produced before him in connection with charges of waging war against the country.
The court also directed that an intimation be sent to the jail authorities regarding this.
The direction followed a plea by Delhi Police that Ansari be given adequate security keeping in view the fact that he was a "high-risk prisoner." Ansari, who was lodged in the Kolkata Presidency Jail, was flown to the capital yesterday following a production warrant issued by the magistrate.
He was also produced before designated Pota judge in connection with an alleged plot to assassinate President A P J Kalam and kidnap Sachin Tendulkar and Saurav Ganguly.
Ansari would be taken back to Kolkata on March 25 to stand trial in the Kolkata American Center shootout case.
