Begusarai, Sept 11: Normal life was affected with disruption in rail and road traffic in Begusarai in response to bandh called today by the Joint Action Committee (JAC) of several political parties to protest the Centre's move to close the Barauni fertiliser factory. The main markets in the town remained closed and the major roads wore a deserted look in the wake of the dawn-to-dusk bandh called by the JAC comprising CPI, samajwadi Janata party (SJP), Lok Janshakti Party (LJP) and Congress.
The protestors blocked the road at the main intersections in the town, disrupting the movement of vehicles, police said.


Due to closure of the national highway at different points, many long-distance trucks remained stranded at several places.
Movement of trains was disrupted in Barauni-Katihar, Barauni-Samastipur, Barauni-Hajipur and Barauni-Mokamah sections of the eastern railway by protestors, a railway spokesman said.
Many long-distance trains including 8181 Tata-Gorakhpur Express, 5610 Awadh-Assam Express and 2553 Vaishali Express were stranded at different points due to the strike. Bureau Report
