Some new faces are likely to be inducted into the Delhi cabinet on Monday following discussions between Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit.
The reshuffled cabinet is likely to be announced later on Monday as AICC General Secretary Kamal Nath concluded discussions with various units of Delhi unit of Congress late on Sunday night. Nath, who is incharge of Delhi, met party President on Sunday evening and presented views of all the sections of Congress leaders that he met during the last three days. This meeting was preceeded by a meeting between Dikshit and Gandhi.
The meeting took place amidst speculations that Nath had gone to submit a list in which four ministers in the previous cabinet have been dropped. Party sources said Deputy Speaker Kiran Chowdhury and Ajay Maken were among the front runners for a cabinet berth while food and Civil Supplies Minister Yoganand Shastri and Social Welfare Minister Krishna Tirath were likely to be dropped.
While maintaining that Dikshit will continue to head the new cabinet, Nath had said, a change will take place. There is no doubt about that. We will give a new look to the ministry and continue to work for the people.
Dikshit, who is reportedly at loggerheads with some central Congress leaders, has also said the issue was confined to resignation of six ministers. “What is to be done about that will be decided on Tuesday,” she said. Bureau Report
