Kannur, Oct 28: Terming the A K Antony government in
Kerala as a 'sinking ship’, Congress (S) today said Congress
leader K Karunakaran's 'efforts to dislodge' the Chief
Minister would only pave way for a better government by ending
the worst ever political crisis faced by the state.
'Antony government, which has completely failed to provide
an able administration, has lost its constitutional and
political mandate to rule the state and the campaign by
Karunakaran led 'I' faction against the Chief Minister is the
right step to save the people,' party chief Kadannappally
Ramachandran told a press conference here.
Maintaining that Karunakaran's 'softening' of stand on
CPI-M assumed greater significance in the present political
scenario of the state, he said Chief Minister A K Antony, on
the other hand, had 'succumbed' to Sangh Parivar outfits by
acceeding to most of their demands in the process of Marad
rehabilitation.
He alleged that Antony government had lost faith of the
general public and even ruling UDF constituents would not
support it for its 'overall failure' in addressing various
issues facing the state.
'Instead of sticking to power on mere technical grounds,
the Chief Minister should tender his resignation in the wake
of recent political developments,' Ramachandran said.
Asked if there was a possibility of a merger between Congress(S )and the faction led by K Karunakaran, he said 'time was not ripe to arrive at a decision in this regard and all will depend on how future political developments take shape.'
