Rape victim approaches NCW for justice
New Delhi, Nov 05: The political controversy over parading of a rape victim in a rally addressed by Prime Minister in Bhopal on October 19 refuses to die, with the victim Jamuna Bai approaching the National Commission for Women, saying that she is being threatened by the murderers of her husband.
"Jamuna Bai approached the commission last evening saying
that her life is under constant threat from the men who
brutally murdered her husband," NCW Chairperson Poornima Advani said here today.
In a complaint submitted yesterday, Jamuna Bai said "I
feel insecure as the people who murdered my husband have
issued threats to me."
"Dignity of women is paramount and at no cost the case of
crime against women should be politicised. Due care must be
exercised by all the political parties in the forthcoming
elections," Advani said adding rape victims should be kept out
of political process.
The chairperson said the Commission has asked the state
government to provide adequate security to the victim.
She said the Commission would also direct the political
parties not to rake up the issue as the victim belongs to a
backward class and is reeling under severe poverty.
