Indianapolis, July 27: Top-seeded American Andy Roddick eased past experienced Dutchman Sjeng Schalken 6-3, 6-2 yesterday to reach the final of the 600,000-dollar ATP tournament here. He will now face either Thailand's second seed Paradorn Srichaphan or unseeded Frenchman Nicolas Thomann in the final.
It was Roddick's second career win over the third-seeded Schalken and a triumph in the final would be the 21-year-old's eighth of his career and third of the season after wins on the Grass of Queen's and Clay at Saint Poelten. Roddick, who is ranked six in the world, opened and closed the match with aces, but was actually not serving at his usually impressive level during the 63-minute match.
Working with new coach Brad Gilbert, Roddick has learned to incorporate other facets to his game, most importantly being able to judge when to approach the net. "Brad's told me that there's more than one way to win or lose a match," Roddick said. "He's taught me to try different things out there." Bureau Report
