Guwahati, Dec 24: Work in the three government medical colleges and the lone dental college in Assam has been seriously affected for the third day today with the junior doctors going on an indefinite strike. The doctors, under the banner of Federation of Junior Doctors, Assam (FoJDA), were protesting against the "reluctant approach" of the government in solving their "genuine" demands including payment of stipends.
The strike has affected the emergency ward of the Guwahati Medical College here as hundreds of patients had to wait for treatment.
There are more than 1200 junior doctors in the three medical colleges in Guwahati, Dibrugarh and Silchar, who are observing the strike.
FoJDA president Dr Arun Deka has regretted the inconvenience to the patients but said despite receiving a verbal assurance from the government nothing concrete has come, forcing the body to continue the stir. Bureau Report
