Islamabad, July 01: Three members of former prime minister Nawaz Sharif's family were deported to Saudi Arabia, ending days of attempts to defy the deportation order, an
immigration official said today.
Nusrat Sharif, a sister-in-law of the former prime
minister, and her daughters Rabia and Jaweria, were sent out
of the country from Islamabad, Zafar Mahmood, the immigration
official said.
They had been allowed to return to Pakistan in April to attend a family wedding, which the authorities said did not take place.
Sharif, twice prime minister of Pakistan, was sent into exile in Saudi Arabia along with his family after a court in Pakistan found him guilty of attempting to kill President Pervez Musharraf in 1999, when the military took power.
In subsequent trials that followed his ouster, Sharif along with members of his family were found guilty of corruption.
Musharraf gave Sharif the option of exile in Saudi Arabia for 10 years or jail in Pakistan. He and his family chose exile. Bureau Report
