Team India Racing dominates 2nd MRF Championship
Navalur, July 07: It was a creditable Sunday for Akbar Ibrahim-owned Team India Racing (TIR) as they ruled supreme amongst the teams that competed in the national categorised events held in the 2nd MRF Formule Mondiale Championship that concluded here yesterday.

In the Asia Zone national cadet championship trophy event, billed as the biggest race for the day, Mumbai's Jigar Muni (14.33.537) made it a start to finish affair and Abbas Ghadially (14.41.099) and K V Prakash (14.41.976) both of TIR, claimed the second and third places respectively. The five Malaysians who competed in the event finished at the bottom.
Soon after the celebrity events for the cricket greats was over, the competitive section of the championship was held. In the first race for Karting championship trophy, 18-year-old S Vikas of TIR drove a dream race to finish first. He was followed by Vivek Bhatt of Bangalore and local lad, Sanju Tharappan in the second and third places.
In the Indian national karting championship trophy event, which witnesssed stiff competition amongst the top contenders, Bangalore's Deepak Paul Chinappa of Team Kadurs of Bangalore came first with a timing of 12 m 49.87 secs. Raymond Banerjee of Team India Racing, who set a best lap timing with 36.016 secs in the event, finished second (12:50.166) and Jigar Muni of Mumbai was third.
