Thiruvananthapuram, Oct 30: Leaders of Opposition Left Democratic Front (LDF) today met Chief Minister A K Antony to press their demand for an early assembly session to take up the opposition move to bring in a resolution for removal of speaker Vakkom Purushothaman.

Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan, who led the delegation, told reporters later that the Chief Minister had assured them that he would let the government position known after examining their memorandum.
The LDF delegation decided to meet the Chief Minister after rejection of its notice by the legislature secretary on the ground that the notice could not be entertained since the house was not in session.
Opposition charge against the speaker was that he had indulged in 'partisan politics' during the Ernakulam Lok Sabha by-election.
Antony had yesterday said the opposition as well as his detractors in the party could wait till January next for a trial of strength, when the assembly was to begin its session after the six-month recess.
The LDF move against speaker assumed added political significance after the Karunakaran faction in the Congress came out in favour of an early assembly session.
