Seoul, May 29: Seoul is likely to be home to the world's tallest building when a 130-storey skyscraper is completed in 2008, the Korea Foreign Company Association (KFCA) said today. The International Business Center will stand 580-metre high and have 130 floors including a ground floor of 39,600 square metres, the KFCA said.
"When completed, this building will be the tallest in the world," said the KFCA executive vice president Kim Seon-Jae.
The Shanghai World Financial Center, standing 492 metres, is currently the world's tallest building. "We plan to complete fundraising by the end of this year and start construction work next year," he said.
A consortium of domestic and foreign investors is being formed to finance the costs estimated at 1.3 billion dollars.
According to a blueprint, the International Business Center will house a 560-room hotel, apartments to foreign residents, offices for foreign businesses and convention centres. Facilities will include an airport terminal, a movie theatre, a health club and a medical centre.
Officials of the Seoul City Hall said the city administration and KFCA had signed a memorandum of understanding in December last year on the construction of the building in western Seoul's Sangam district.
