New Delhi, Dec 03: With a fresh controversy arisen over the reported request of cricket icon Sachin Tendulkar to waive road worthiness test costing about Rs 15 lakh for a Ferrari sports car gifted to him by auto major Fiat, the government today said no decision had yet been taken on the waiver. "Commerce and industry minister Arun Jaitley will take a take a final view on the issue," director-general of foreign trade Lalit Mansingh told when asked if the cricketer's request had hit a roadblock.

Sachin's earlier request for waiver of customs duty totalling Rs 1.13 crore for his red Ferrari 360 Modena had already been granted by the finance minister Jaswant Singh.

Subsequently Fiat had offered to pay the duty after a controversy arose when a public interest litigation was filed in the Supreme Court to challenge the duty waiver.

Road worthiness test known as Homologation which costs about 10-15 lakh is mandatory for all cars imported by individuals.

But, exemptions are made in case the car is given as a prize in a tournament as was the case when former cricketer Ravi Shastri won an Audi in Benson & Hedges series in Australia. Bureau Report
