Jammu, May 11: Militants today shot dead an army jawan and injured two policemen in Poonch and Doda districts of Jammu and Kashmir even as the army personnel recovered three powerful IEDs from Doda, official sources said here. An army patrol party was attacked by militants in Sudanka-Sangar area of Poonch district killing an army jawan in exchange of fire, they said. The militants escaped after the incident.
Militants also fired at a police party in Ail village of Doda, injuring two policemen.
Meanwhile, army personnel recovered three powerful IEDs in Doda district last night. A powerful IED was found in a bag in Kothi village and it was later defused with the help of the bomb disposal squad. Another IED was found from the same area and it was also defused without causing any casualty, the sources said.
Both the IEDs were believed to have been planted to target the security forces and the polling staff, they said.
A patrol party of Indo-Tibetan border police recovered a powerful IED planted along the footpath close to a polling station in Gugara-Halaran area of Doda this morning.
The IED, weighing one kg, was kept in a plastic bag and it was defused safely, the sources said.
