New Delhi, Nov 05: Concerned by the time gap between the orders of court granting bail and it being communicated to the jail authorities, the Supreme Court today sought suggestions from the Delhi government for expeditious release of prisoners who have been granted bail. A bench comprising Justice N Santosh Hegde and Justice B P Singh asked the Delhi government counsel Rajiv Dutta to inform the court on or before November 13 ways and means to reduce the time gap to the minimum between the orders of bail and actual release.
The direction was given in a case where one prisoner Pusai alias America, convicted in a house trespass case and injuring his landlord, was granted bail by the court on April 25 this year but the Tihar Jail authorities were intimated about the same only by May 01.
Counsel for the prisoner Vijay Panjwani said relatives of the prisoner could approach the trial court on May 05 for furnishing bail bonds and he was released only on May 07.
He gave wide-ranging suggestions to minimise delay in release of prisoners who were granted bail, including holding magisterial courts inside the jail premises to save relatives of the prisoner the trouble of running from pillar to post.
The court would hear the case again on November 13.
