Riyadh, Nov 15: The US Embassy in Riyadh was fully operational at all levels on Saturday after closing for a week on a credible threat of attack which saw a suicide bombing kill 17 people, a spokesperson said.
"Our assessment is that the security situation makes it safe for us to be open to the public or we would remain closed," Carol Kalin, counselor for public affairs at the US embassy, told reporters.
"We prefer not to discuss specific security measures, but we did ask for additional measures from the Saudi government even before the attacks and that adds to our comfort level."
US consulates in Jeddah and Dahran are also open for normal operations.
Asked if the US mission was less worried now, than when it had issued its imminent threat announcement just ahead of the November 08 attack on a residential compound, Kalin replied, "yes, of course, otherwise we would be closed."
The embassy shut last Saturday only hours before the bombing believed to have been carried out by al-Qaeda.
The US mission urged all Americans in Saudi Arabia to remain cautious and vigilant and restricted the movement of its personnel for one day last week to the diplomatic quarter.
Kalin declined to reveal any details regarding the source that led to the announcement of an imminent threat of attack.
