Kolkata, Aug 23: Senior Congress leader Pranab Mukherjee today said that the CPI-M's "political terror" and BJP's "communal terror" were "both sides of the same coin" and asked the Congressmen to fight against the twin menace by bringing together anti-BJP and anti-CPI-M forces. "There is no difference between the communal terror of the BJP across the country and CPI-M's terror tactics against its political opponents in West Bengal where the Marxists are in power for the past 26 years," Mukherjee said at a joint convention of state Congress with the Party for Democratic Socialism (PDS), founded by CPI-M dissidents.
Seeking to a draw a parallel between the CPI-M and BJP, Mukherjee, the state Congress chief said that after the Gujarat riots, Chief Minister Narenda Modi defended it as a "reaction to the Godhra carnage". "Similarly, the CPI-M here tries to pass it as a public outcry the cases of torture by CPI-M cadres on innocent people,” he alleged. Bureau Report
