UK ,Aug 16: The New York Yankees fought back for a dramatic 7-5 victory over the Kansas City Royals on Thursday.
A Raul Mondesi homer with one out and Bernie Williams on base in the top of the ninth sealed the win.
And Jorge Posada's RBI single to score Ron Coomer gave the Yankees a cushion after they came back from 5-4 down.
"I got a second chance and I just wanted to hit the ball hard somewhere, and I hit the home run," said Mondesi.
Yankees pitcher Mike Stanton (6-1) got the win as he covered for starter Orlando Hernandez.
Raul Ibanez and Michael Tucker hit homers for the Royals.
In St. Petersburg, the Tampa Bay Devil Rays were another side to come back from the brink of defeat.
Andy Sheets homered with two men on base and two outs in the bottom of the ninth for a 4-3 win over the Cleveland Indians.
