The Tamil Nadu government would impress upon the Centre the need for a nationwide ban on the Tamil National Liberation Army and Tamil National Retrieval Troops, chief minister O Paneerselvam said. The Chief Minister told reporters at Chennai airport before leaving for Delhi to participate in the inter-state council meeting for internal security that he would ask for the ban when he meets Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee.
Tamil Nadu had already decided to ban the two outfits, especially after the recent e-mail threat to AIADMK supremo Jayalalithaa, he said.
This is Paneerselvam's second visit to Delhi after assuming office as Chief Minister. Pondicherry chief minister N Rangasamy, who also left by the same flight, told reporters that his government's stand on POTO would be the same as that of the Congress high command.
