New Delhi, Dec 07: A parliamentary standing committee has questioned inclusion of Union Home Minister as a trustee of the Jallianwala Bagh National Memorial saying that there was no correlation between the functioning of the trust and the role of home minister in the trust.
The report on the Jallianwala Bagh National Memorial (Amendment) Bill, 2003, submitted to Parliament last week opined that there was no need to have the home minister as a member in the trust and recommended that this provision might be deleted.
The committee on transport, tourism and culture, chaired by Nilotpal Basu, CPI-M MP, said in its report that the ministry has treated this trust of esteemed national importance in a "very negligent manner" and hoped that the government would do away with this kind of "lackadaisical" approach in future.
Observing that due to this "negligent" attitude and with almost defunct trust assets and properties, the memorial could not be utilised properly, it said after the bill was passed by the Parliament, necessary rules and regulations would be framed and the vacancies in the trust would be filled up to make the trust functional expeditiously.
