New Delhi, Aug 26: Special Economic Zones at Indore, Kolkata and Jaipur are all set to go operational even as the zones at Navi Mumbai and Maha Mumbai, Visakhapatnam, Gopalpur, Hassan and Jodhpur are in progress. The zones where development is underway, the implementing agencies are already in possession of sizeable land, according to a statement of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, on Monday.

Green field SEZs are being set up largely in the private sector in association with state governments and are in the nature of large infrastructure projects involving investments ranging from Rs 2000 crore to Rs 5000 crore, it said.
Exports from functional SEZs have crossed the figure of Rs 10,000 crore during 2002-03, touching Rs 10,053 crore.
At present, 692 units are operating in eight functioning SEZs providing employment to about 86,765 persons, it said and added that private investment by units in the zones stood at Rs 1865 crore. Bureau Report
