New Delhi, Aug 15: Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee today described as a "practical suggestion" the new proposal for creation of 33 per cent double member seats to provide reservation for women in Lok Sabha and state assemblies.
In his Independence Day address, he regretted that it has become difficult to pass the women's reservation bill in its original form due to lack of consensus in Parliament.
Now the new proposal of double member seats was a "practical suggestion", he said adding that all the supporters of women's reservation should consider it with a positive outlook.
"If there is any other suggestion on which a consensus is possible, the same should be implemented. There should be no further delay in realizing this goal, for which our sisters have been waiting for a long time," he added.
