Shillong, July 04: Sitting BJP MLA of Meghalaya Assembly and former home minister, Thrang Hok Rangad died at a hospital here early today. He was 49 and is survived by wife and three daughters. Rangad, who represented Laban constituency, was suffering from lung cancer. For the last few weeks he was undergoing treatment at the Nazareth Hospital here where he breathed his last at around 2.30 am, BJP sources said. His funeral would be conducted on Sunday, the party sources said. A member of BJP national executive, Rangad joined politics in 1991 by entering the saffron party.
Rangad was the home minister in the earlier E K Mawlong-led ministry. He also held the portfolios of Information and Public Relations, Information Technology and Education Departments.

He resigned from the Mawlong government in the wake of the controversy over building a 'Meghalaya House' in Kolkata.
