Washington, June 09: Observing that September 11 terror strike in US demonstrated that distance is no consideration when terrorists decide to strike, Deputy Prime Minister L K Advani said India will win the battle against terrorism emanating from Pakistan just as it won three wars waged by that country earlier. "It (the war against terrorism) is not like World War I or World War II or the three wars India had to fight earlier. This is a new type of war. India has been fighting this war for the last two decades but the rest of the world did not take much notice until 9/11 when terrorists struck at the United States," Advani said.
Without naming Pakistan, Advani said he has no doubt that those who are waging this war using terrorists against India will lose it just as they lost the three wars earlier. Addressing the Indian community here yesterday, the Deputy Prime Minister, who is on a ten-day visit to US, said, "Just as the terrorists' strike against the US in September 2001 caught world's attention, so did the attack on the Indian Parliament."
"No one knows when they (Pakistani terrorists) will strike, where they will strike, and where their leader or leaders are hiding. This war can only be fought and won with determination, and India has that determination," Advani said.
Advani received loud cheers when he mentioned that the bill to give dual citizenship to people of Indian origin in North America and some of the other countries is now before a standing committee of Parliament. "When that is passed, Bharat vasis (those living in India) and Bharat Vanshis (people of Indian origin abroad) will be brought closer,” he said.
He pointed out that it is the dream of President A P J Abdul Kalam that within the next few years India must become a developed country.
"The dream has to be realised. India can do so for her potential is vast", he said. Advani said when he went to Microsoft heaquarters he learned that as many as 30 percent of the people working there were Indians.
Asserting that NDA government under the leadership of Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee had provided political stability to the country, he said, the country is achieving progress in several areas under his leadership.
Earlier, Advani visited the Durga Temple and participated in an event organized by an umbrella organization of all the Hindu and Jain temples of the Greater Washington area. Bureau Report
