Deposing before the Venkataswami Commission, a retired defence official, who allegedly acted as a conduit between Tehelka reporters and other officials and politicians, said the news portal has "deliberately not shown the portions where he has mentioned that raksha mantri does not take money and one cannot bribe person in uniform."
Maj Gen Murgai, who was cross-examined by the counsel for Col V B Sayal and Maj Gen P S K Choudhary, said, "I was discouraging Tehelka reporter Samuel Mathew from offering bribe to others. I told him that persons in uniform will not take bribe as country's honour is concerned," and added that, "however, on his persistent insistence, I introduced him to others."

"I had also told them that though I can arrange a meeting with the state minister for defence, they cannot achieve much out of it," he claimed adding that was also edited out of the four-and-a-half hours tapes shown to public.
Indicating that the cuts were made deliberately to give a particular direction to the sting operation, Murgai claimed that he was also offered women by Mathew which he had refused.
However, the retired official admitted that the job offer made by Tehelka for $1,200 was at the back of his mind and said he had thought that if the company would have been able to establish itself in the country and had arranged for the licences, he would have joined them as 'country manager' (technical).
