New Delhi, Dec 03: As Parliament's winter session
opened on a rocky note, government today sought to lower the
heat on the issue of corruption saying Prime Minister Atal
Bihari Vajpayee was ready to make a statement on the Dilip
Singh Judeo episode after he returns from the Chogm Summit in
Nigeria on Sunday.
"We are ready for a statement on the Judeo issue by the
Prime Minister after he returns from the Chogm Summit ... that
can only be early next week, whenever it suits him",
Parliamentary Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj told reporters
after a meeting of the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) of
Lok Sabha.
"We are ready for it", Swaraj said citing opposition's demand for a statement from the Prime Minister.
Several opposition members have moved adjournment motions on the alleged Judeo bribery episode as well as on reports about certain Union ministers pressurising Public Sector Units for favours.
Swaraj said Speaker Manohar Joshi has sought "factual notes" from Cabinet Secretary Kamal Pande on both the issues. The Speaker would decide on the admissibility of the adjournment notices moved by opposition members on these issues after considering the notes from the Cabinet Secretariat as well as the opposition viewpoints.
On the "sensitive" issue of atrocities against Biharis in Assam, she said there was a "consensus" on the matter that a discussion would be held on it in the specific context of the overall railway recruitment policy. The discussion has been slated for Friday immediately after question hour. Bureau Report
