Makassar, Dec 08: An Indonesian court sentenced two
Islamic militants to 3 1/2 years in jail today for failing to
inform authorities about the deadly bombing of a Mcdonald's
restaurant on Sulawesi island last year.
Syaifulah Amir and Muhamad Amir knew about plans to
bomb the restaurant in Makassar but did not tell police. The
blasts killed three people and wounded 15, judge Muhamad
Adnan told the Makassar district court.
He said both men were members of Laskar Jundullah, a little known militant group believed to have links with Jemaah Islamiyah, the al Qaeda-linked terror group blamed for the Bali blasts of October 12, 2001, that killed 202 people.
The sentences bring to 15 the number convicted in the Makassar blast. Their sentences have ranged from two to 15 years in prison.
The Mcdonald's bombing came less than two months after terrorist car bombs at nightclubs on Bali island killed 202 people, mostly foreign tourists.
On August 05, a suspected Jemaah Islamiyah terror cell bombed a US-owned hotel in Jakarta, killing 12 and wounding more than 150.
