Kohima, Dec 21: In a violation of ceasefire ground rules, suspected NSCN (I-M) activists fired upon an Assam Rifles patrol party killing a soldier at Razeba village in Phek district. The Assam Rifles Naik Abid Ali who was critically injured in the firing on Thursday, died on way to the hospital, Assam Rifles sources here said, terming the attack as a violation of ceasefire ground rules.
Sources said some 40 armed cadres of the NSCN (I-M) entered Razeba village from the Manipur side on December 18.
When Assam Rifles patrol told them to move out of the area, they did not do so immediately but later moved towards the Manipur side, Assam Rifles sources said.
However, when the Assam Rifles soldiers withdrew, the cadres returned to Razeba and settled there for the night.
When the Assam Rifles patrol went into the area the following day, they were fired upon and Abid Ali was fatally injured. Bureau Report
