Kolkata, Dec 08: On the eve of the International Human Rights Day, over 5000 youngsters and adults joined a walk in the city in support of the basic rights of children declared in a 1989 UN convention. The 'Walk for Children' organised by Unicef and Rotary International drew support from different schools, colleges, professional groups, NGOs, policy makers, local clubs, media, celebrities as well as residents of the metropolis.

Holding colourful placards and chanting child rights couplets, the walkers rallied for the right to survival, right to development, right to protection and right to participation for young ones.
Two separate groups took to the streets doing awareness rounds in posh North Kolkata and South Kolkata areas as a year-end follow-up to the global movement for children and the special UN session of May 2002. Bureau Report
